This session explores what’s really going on beneath adolescent behaviour, helping school staff better understand how brain development, identity, belonging, and digital life shape student actions. It focuses on translating this understanding into practical, everyday responses that support wellbeing while maintaining clear expectations. The aim is to strengthen how staff notice, interpret, and respond to students in ways that build connection, consistency, and growth
Key ideas that will be covered include:
- Understand key features of adolescent brain development and how they influence behaviour
- Recognise the role of identity, belonging, and peer influence in student decision-making
- Identify early signs of distress and differentiate between typical development and concern
- Apply practical strategies to respond to behaviour with empathy and clear expectations
- Support students to navigate digital life in a balanced and informed way
- Use a consistent framework (notice → connect → refer) to guide responses in school setting
