Supporting young people to build and maintain healthy relationships is one of the most important – and often most complex – parts of a pastoral role. This practical session helps pastoral carers navigate conversations about friendships, boundaries, consent and connection. You’ll explore how to respond when relationship issues arise, how to reinforce positive norms in everyday interactions, and how to handle disclosures or difficult situations with confidence and care.
Key ideas that will be covered include:
Understand the developmental and social context of young people’s relationships, both online and offline
- Learn how to interpret and explore the language students use about relationships
- Develop practical strategies to model and reinforce healthy relationship norms across the school day
- Strengthen skills for responding to disclosures, boundary violations, and relationship breakdowns
- Build confidence in supporting reflection and repair without judgement or shame
